Manuel Blanco, Discussion Group Convener on Renewable Energy Sources
Manuel Blanco is the Director of the Solar Thermal Energy Department of the National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain(CENER) and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of SolarPACES. He has more than twenty nine years of experience as a solar researcher and engineer, contributing to advancing the state-of-the-art of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technologies. He is Doctor of Engineering on Applied Physics and Master of Science in Energy Engineering by the University of Massachusetts and Doctor of Industrial Engineering by the University of Seville. He has a wide researcher and teaching experience on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Computer Simulation of Energy Systems.
He has been, among other positions, a Full Professor and Chair of the Engineering Department of the University of Texas at Brownsville; Director of the Plataforma Solar de Almería of CIEMAT; Advisor to the President of the Andalusian Energy Agency; and member of the International Test and Evaluation Team (IEA).
He is author of numerous scientific publications, has participated in a large number of national and international expert groups and committees, and has represented Spain in various international scientific forums.
